Hello! I?m Trooper, and I am a super adorable, bright, loving, and playful 1-1/2 year old, 20 pound, male Shiba Inu! I?m excited and happy because some nice people saved me from solitary confinement. I spent more than 5 months ? an eternity ? locked in a crate in an unheated garage. It sure was cold in there in December and January. I thought my prison time would never end.
I don?t know why I was there. My original mom and dad got a divorce, and somehow I was the one who got put in prison. I was sad, lonely and scared. And hungry (and dirty, too, I?m ashamed to say).
What matters now is that I?m out! I'm being fostered at a spa-like, super fun kennel in the Ithaca area, where I get plenty of good food, cozy blankets, warmth, love, attention, a chance to make doggy friends and opportunities to run and play in a huge fenced yard! It's like I've gone to doggy heaven!
The great rescue lady who got me out of prison says she?s wow-ed by how happy, cheerful and friendly I am, despite my time behind bars. She comes to visit me and it makes me so happy.
Everyone I meet tells me I?m adorable, funny, energetic, clever and entertaining. I am bright, lively, and am finally getting the chance to learn about fun things like walks, toys, and playing.
I have to admit a few things, though. I?m not very well trained because my first family didn?t take the time to teach me much of anything. I don?t even know my name! I will need some help with housebreaking and walking nicely on leash (a Sense-ation or Sense-ible or Easy Walk Harness will help a lot!), and learning not to jump up to say hello, but I promise that I'm smart and very eager to learn!
I?m 16 months old, and would love to spend the rest of my life with YOU and be your pal!
Note from one of Trooper's fans: When I rescued this little guy, I was struck by how resilient and cheerful he is; I thought 'what a little trooper!' Hence, his name. We don't know how he behaves around cats. His first family did have a daughter in third grade as well as a teen-aged son, so this implies he'll be OK in a household with children.
Because he does need some training, Trooper needs to go to a home with dog-savvy people. He will be neutered before being placed, and is up-to-date on his shots and heartworm-negative.
