My name is Birdie, and I am a handsome, loving, sweet, distinguished guy with an incredibly endearing personality. I am a 12 year old, neutered male Plotthound, and though I am not as young as I used to be, I am still very spry, active, and in excellent health! Quick Fact Sheet: Breed: Plott Hound Age: 12 years Weight: 60 pounds Neutered: Yes Good with Dogs? Yes! (I love to be with other dogs, both big and small). Good with Cats? Yes. I'm curious when I see cats, but not aggressive. Good with kids: Definitely! I have grown up with 2 children and love being around them. Background: I was adopted when I was 4 months old and lived with that family for all my 12 years. I was taken care of lovingly all the while -- regular visits to the vet, Sunday mornings off-leash in the park with other dogs, spending lazy summer days in a fenced in yard, and enjoying walks around the neighborhood with the boys in my family. Sadly, my family is not together anymore, and because of changes in where everyone is living, I am in need of a new home. I am looking for a place to spend my golden years where I can be a loving companion for just the right person or family. Being an older guy, my hearing is not what it used to be, so you will need to be patient with me, tapping me instead of calling my name. Personality: Even though I am 12 years old, I am still a prankster! I have quite a sense of humor, or so my foster mom and dad say. I love to play keep away, running round the fenced yard where I live now. I make funny noises with my mouth, and bark playfully. They even say I make jokes doggy ones! At home I like to be involved in all the goings on - when there is excitement I'll join in with joyful barks, and when things are mellow I love to lay on a comfy dog bed and take a nap. When I want your attention, I may give a few short hound-dog barks, or I may stand silently for long periods of time - looking sheepishly cute and raising my eyebrows in ways that continue to amaze all humans that I encounter. When I was a puppy I did lots of obedience training, house training, and crate training. Now that I'm more mature, all of this hard work has resulted in my being able to be polite, listen well to basic commands, and spend long hours alone in the house when necessary without disturbing a thing. At night I love to sleep at the foot of the bed on my dog pillow and occasionally sigh contentedly. Being a true Coonhound, I have a big beautiful voice, and I like to use it when I get excited. When my people leave the house I will bark for a minute or two and then settle down comfortably until they return. When I want to go out into the fenced yard, I will bark, and when I want to come back inside, I will bark to let you know. I am not an incessant/persistent barker, but I should be in a home where the neighbors don't mind knowing that I'm around. I like to swim, and have also met chickens, pigs, cows and horses and so far have liked all of them no chasing! Im pretty a easy going and adaptable guy. Wont you make me part of your family? Favorite Things: Running around! Rolling in the warm grass, feels and smells so good. Belly rubs, scratchies behind the ears, neck scratchies, laying at your feet, and butt rubs! Exploring with my nose! Watching deer and squirrels! Playing with a ball or toy! Fun! Swimming (unusual for hounds like me)! Sleeping (yum, love soft dog beds, mmmmmmm) Eating (I love food!) Cohabitation I get along wonderfully with other dogs and also with cats. I was a only dog in my former home, so that would be fine too as long as I got to be with you!! Summary I would be so happy to spend my remaining years with a person or family that appreciates a dignified (but also silly and hilarious), loving friend that is equally happy exploring the world or hanging around the house with you!
