Hi, my name is Simon. Since this is my first time typing a letter, and my paws are a little large for the keys, please bear with me. Hmm, where to start?
I am a really intelligent, super affectionate, clever, and energetic 3 year-old, 50 pound, neutered male, tricolor hound mix (I think I'm part Treeing Walker Coonhound?)! A lot of people tell me that I look "regal," "handsome," and "like a gentleman," all of which are true! Honestly, one look at my slender face and deep hazel eyes and you're likely to fall in love; it happens all the time! But I need a very special companion, someone who is up for the daily task of taking me out for long on-leash hikes and hopefully even some runs. I'd be overjoyed to find a home with a large, fenced yard!
Inside a fence, I'm super playful and often bound around, chasing soccer balls and, if I'm lucky? squirrels! After a nice run, or a long walk, I curl up in a tight little ball and take a contented, super happy snooze. Indoors, I'm relaxed and mellow all day, after I?ve had a good walk or hike. I currently spend 3-4 hours home alone during the work week, which is fine for me, though I'm always happy to see a friendly face at the end of the day. I'm well trained and know my basic commands. For a good treat, I'm always happy to shake hands and stand up on my back legs. I rarely use my voice unless there's (what I perceive to be) an emergency. Oh, I guess I make some cute sounds when I'm getting my head scratched or a loving snuggle, but those are muffled noises like "Gumph," and "Hmmmmmmm."
I learned how to be nice to cats after living with four of them and I even got to liking one of them! I'm excited to smell just about any other dog and we play together really well when given the chance. I'll play outdoors as well as indoors (if it's allowed). I especially like female dogs!
I get along well with people of all ages, too. Bottom line is, I like people very, very much. But if you like to play, I'll definitely like you even more!. And did I mention snuggling? I love snuggling almost as much as having my ears scratched and my belly rubbed. And I'm not too shy to sit right down next to you to let you know I'm ready for some affection!
I enjoy eating good dog food, in no small part because for much of my life I was underfed. Now that I'm up to my healthy weight, I've calmed down a bit, but still, if you put a bowl of food in front on me, I'll drool a little until you say "Go ahead," then gobble it up like it's gold!
So why is a wonderful, sweet, loving and fun boy like me looking for a new home? My current owner and I are both so sad that we might have to split up. It's not for lack of connection or love or because of any problems with my behavior, we actually love each other immensely, but he?s always known dogs who can be off-leash, and has waited for many years to get a dog with whom he could take off-leash on many of his outdoor adventures, and unfortunately, that is not me. When I go off-leash, even after really good training, and even when there is tasty venison jerky waiting for me?I often just go, go, go. I?ve gone missing for 4-8 days at a time, which as you can imagine, is horribly upsetting for my owner and pretty scary (and dangerous!) for me. My owner has so many things to share with a dog who can be off-leash, and it makes him awfully sad to keep my tethered all the time, but he knows that there are other people out there who won?t mind it at all, and will be able to keep me safe and happily so and promises to find me a new fabulous home where I will be safe and happy forever. I'm hopeful to find a tender companion who is as energetic, loving, and trusting as I am. I?m a really wonderful boy with so much love to give, just wait until you meet me!
