Beagle - Lola - Small - Senior - Female - Dog
Hi, everyone! My name is Lola, and I'm a very sweet, gentle, loving, and adorable, 18-pound black-and-gray Beagle mix! I have a super cute beagle face (or so people keep telling me!) and a body that resembles that of an Italian Greyhound--I'm lean and I'm all legs! They think I'm about 12 years old, though we don't know for sure. We do know for sure that I?m very sweet and gentle, and I love the company of people and other dogs!
The rescue folks think my former life was not so great, because I clearly want to soak up every minute of warm, loving, fun family life now! I don't want to miss a thinglike a child, I try so hard to stay awake and not miss anything that I actually start falling asleep on my feet when it gets late! It makes my foster dad crack up. If you lead me toward my bed and sit with me for a minute though, I settle right down and curl up and let myself snooze.
My foster family is showing me how wonderful a caring family can be, by giving me regular (yum!) meals, warm places to sleep (so cozy!) and lots of affection/kisses/cuddles. I'm a super lovey little girl and am very grateful to be in a safe and loving home.
When I'm outside, I like to be kept on a pretty short leash, so I know where you are, and that I'm not going to get lost. I seem to feel much safer that way. I'll even nuzzle your leg and look up at you to make sure you're still with me. Be forewarned that my big, sweet, soulful eyes might melt your heart when I do this!!
By looking at me, you'd hardly believe I'm a ?senior.? I can move around very well. I can also see pretty well, but I do have cataracts, so your fingers near my mouth can look a little like delicious treats! Oops! My foster dad has found that approaching my head with open palms when he wants to pet me helps me know the difference.
So while my eyesight is ok, I'm almost completely deaf. Clap your hands, trip over the gate, drop a big pot--it won't startle me or wake me up! No thunderstorm issues here! :) Being deaf means that training me needs to be a bit different (you use hand signals rather than voice commands), but I?m very eager to learn and please. I?m a good example of how old dogs can learn new tricks!
I was not housebroken when i arrived, but am getting a crash course now. I'm not there yet, but am making progress and am enjoying learning, as there are yummy treats involved. I'm a little girl, so my accidents aren't so hard to clean up!
I'm a really wonderful older girl, anxiously awaiting my loving forever home. I am a really beautiful and sweet companion and will bring so much love into your life. If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an online adoption application at www.cayugadogrescue.org/adopt.php and live near Ithaca, Syracuse, Elmira, or Binghamton. The rescue does home visits on all applicants and can only consider folks where they have home visit volunteers.
