Hi! My name is Kirby, and I am an exceptionally specia,l 1 year old, 49 pound, neutered male Austrailian Cattle Dog!
I was in a very overcrowded shelter in KY and out of the hundreds of dogs there, I was the staff favorite! J They told me it was because I was so good-natured, incredibly smart, handsome, dignified, and wonderful with every dog there. The rescue folks say that it?s all true, they can?t believe what a great boy I am!
I am quite energetic and extremely playful. I?m fabulous with other dogs?I will play all day with them when they are friendly, and I calmly walk away from them if they are being jerky. [Sorry to say though, I am not good with cats.]
I am also very athletic, and will often treat observers to some pretty amazing jumps and flips! I would definitely love (and I need!) daily walks or hikes and would probably be a great jogging companion too. I would love an adopter who was active outdoors and wanted a companion to join him/her in outdoor adventures.
I also have a great sense of humor and I like to play pranks? I might steal the mitten right off of your hand while we?re out on a walk and then try to get you to chase me for it! J You have to remember?I was in the high-kill shelter for a very long time so I learned to make fun wherever I could!
The rescue folks say I seem ?off-the-charts? smart. I focus impressively, and seem able to learn commands very quickly. Because I am so bright though, I need someone who will work with me and give me mental stimulation. I would excel in positive dog training classes and agility and other doggy sports and would so enjoy doing all of that with you!
I seem like I?m not used to having attention from people, so when I get it, I act like a little puppy?kind of all over the place, and super excited, and I try to play with you as if you are another young pup (all tumbles and mouth and clumsiness). You will have to have a little patience while I ?grow up,? but given how smart I am, I bet I learn fast!
I have gorgeous chocolate fur with some very sweet little soft white patches, and my almond shaped eyes are stunning. Even though I am very excited by the smells I encounter on walks, I walk very nicely in a Sensible Harness, and if you give me treats while we walk, I remain impressively attentive to you even though those smells call for my attention.
I would be an amazing companion for an active person or people who want a smart dog. I am a very special guy, who in the right home, will be someone?s lifelong favorite dog ever.
